Building a New Screen Patio from the Ground Up

One of the most rewarding projects in our business is building a brand new screen patio from the ground up. Unlike repairs or re-screen jobs, a new enclosure allows everything to be designed and installed correctly from the very beginning.

Most new screen patios start with a simple goal from the homeowner. They want to enjoy their backyard without bugs, debris, or constant cleaning around the pool. In South Florida, a properly built screen enclosure turns an open patio into a comfortable outdoor living space that can be used year round.

The first step is always layout and measurements. The enclosure must fit precisely on the existing concrete footprint. Proper anchor placement, beam sizing, and engineering all play an important role in making sure the structure meets Florida Building Code requirements for wind loads and structural integrity.

For most projects we install aluminum framing with a structural gutter attached to the home. The structural gutter manages water runoff from the roof while also providing support for the enclosure frame. Everything is anchored securely into the slab so the structure can handle the weather conditions we experience here in Palm Beach County.

The screen material we commonly install is Phifer 18/14 patio mesh, which provides excellent airflow while keeping mosquitoes and insects out. Self closing doors are installed to meet pool safety barrier requirements and give homeowners easy access to their backyard.

Once the enclosure is complete, the transformation is immediate. What used to be an exposed pool deck becomes a clean, shaded patio space where families can relax, entertain guests, and enjoy their pool without worrying about bugs or falling leaves.

A well built screen enclosure does more than improve comfort. It also adds value to the home and extends the usable living space outdoors. When installed correctly with proper materials and fastening systems, a screen patio can last for many years with minimal maintenance.
