Choosing the Right Screen Mesh for Your Enclosure

Not all screen mesh is the same, even though it might look that way from a distance. One of the biggest mistakes homeowners make is assuming any screen will do. The type of mesh you choose has a big impact on durability, airflow, visibility, and long term maintenance.
The most common option for pool and patio enclosures is 18x14 mesh. This is what most people call standard pool screen. It offers good airflow, keeps bugs out, and provides clear visibility. For many homeowners, it is a solid choice, especially for upper panels.
Another popular option is tighter mesh, like no see um screen. This is great if you deal with tiny insects, especially near canals or wooded areas. The tradeoff is reduced airflow. In the South Florida heat, that matters, so it is important to weigh comfort versus pest control.
Some homeowners want extra strength, especially on lower panels. Thicker or reinforced mesh holds up better against pets, kids, and everyday wear. It costs a little more, but it can significantly reduce the number of repairs over time.
Privacy is another reason people upgrade mesh. Darker screens or privacy mesh on the lower section can limit visibility from neighbors while still keeping the enclosure open and bright above the chair rail. This is where design choices really start to matter.
I always recommend thinking about how the space is actually used. Do you have pets. Is it a high traffic area. Are you near water or heavy vegetation. These details help determine the best mesh, not just what is cheapest.
At A Home Service, we walk through all the options with our customers before installing anything. A screen enclosure should be tailored to how you live, not just built to a standard template.
