Sometimes Removing a Screen Enclosure Is the Right Move

This week we had a project where the homeowner asked us to remove their screen enclosure and not put one back up. That might sound unusual, but it actually happens more often than people think.

Sometimes the enclosure is very old, damaged, or simply no longer fits the homeowner’s lifestyle. Other times, the structure has reached the end of its lifespan, and the homeowner wants to open up the backyard space again. We also see situations where families are planning a future renovation, pool remodel, or new design, and removing the enclosure is the first step.

One thing we always explain is that removal needs to be done carefully and professionally. Screen enclosures are tied into the home’s fascia, slab, and sometimes the roof structure. If they are removed the wrong way, it can cause damage to the house, gutters, or surrounding pavers. Our goal is to take everything down clean, back out fasteners properly, and leave the area safe and ready for whatever comes next.

We also make sure homeowners understand safety considerations, especially if there is a swimming pool. In many cases, a temporary child safety barrier may be required to stay compliant with pool safety regulations after the enclosure is removed.

The takeaway this week is simple. Not every project is about building something new. Sometimes the right solution is removing an old enclosure and giving the homeowner a clean slate to plan their next step.
