Storm Prep Is Not Just for Hurricane Season

Storm preparation is not something you think about only when a hurricane is on the radar. In Florida, heavy rain, sudden wind gusts, and afternoon storms can stress a screen enclosure at any time of year.

Recently, we inspected several enclosures that had loose roof panels and aging fasteners. None of the homeowners had experienced a major storm. What they had experienced were years of small weather events slowly loosening connections and weakening attachment points.

We reinforced frame joints, replaced corroded screws with proper exterior rated fasteners, and corrected minor movement before it became structural damage. These are not dramatic repairs, but they are the kind that prevent major failures later.

Another focus was checking roof transitions where the enclosure ties into the home. If flashing is not tight or gutters are not draining properly, wind driven rain can push water into areas that were never designed to stay wet. Over time, that leads to wood rot behind fascia boards and deterioration around ledger connections.

We also spoke with homeowners about simple maintenance habits. Rinsing salt buildup, trimming back landscaping that pushes against screens, and visually inspecting fasteners once or twice a year can extend the life of an enclosure significantly.

The truth is that most large enclosure failures do not happen suddenly. They build over time. Staying ahead of small problems is what protects your investment.

At A Home Service, we approach every inspection as if it were our own home. Catch it early. Fix it correctly. Strengthen it before the next storm rolls through.

If your enclosure has not been looked at in a while, a proactive inspection is often far less expensive than an emergency repair.
