What Is a Picture View Screen and Why Homeowners Love It

Picture view screens have become one of the most requested upgrades for pool screen enclosures in South Florida, and it is easy to see why. They make a screen enclosure feel more open, less closed in, and more comfortable for everyday use.

I own and operate A Home Service, and while picture view screens look great, I also make sure homeowners understand how they perform long term and how to design them the smart way.

What a Picture View Screen Is

A picture view screen is a large, open screen panel designed to give you a clear, uninterrupted view. Instead of multiple horizontal rails breaking up the opening, the enclosure is framed to allow one tall screen section.

Picture view screens are most commonly installed on the back wall of a pool screen enclosure facing a backyard, lake, canal, or preserve.

Why Picture View Screens Are So Popular

Homeowners choose picture view screens because:

  • The enclosure feels larger and more open

  • The view of the pool and yard is cleaner

  • The patio feels less boxed in

  • The enclosure has a more modern look

For many people, this upgrade alone completely changes how the space feels.

The Real World Problem Most People Miss

Most damage to screen enclosures in Florida happens at the bottom of the screen. Weed whackers, kids, dogs, pool toys, and lawn equipment all tend to hit the lower section first.

When a full height picture view panel gets damaged, replacing that panel can be expensive. I see this happen all the time, usually six months to a year after installation.

The Smarter Picture View Screen Design I Recommend

To avoid unnecessary repair costs, I often recommend starting the picture view panel 18 inches off the ground and installing a horizontal beam at that height.

Above that beam, the picture view screen continues upward.

This design:

  • Protects the most damage prone area

  • Limits the size of the picture view panel

  • Reduces long term screen repair costs

  • Still provides the open, unrestricted view homeowners want

I also recommend limiting picture view sections to about 30 feet wide when possible to keep future maintenance affordable.

Why This Saves Money Over Time

When the lower section is protected, most common screen damage becomes a small repair instead of a full panel replacement.

Instead of replacing a large picture view screen that could cost close to a thousand dollars, homeowners usually only need to replace a small lower section that costs a fraction of that.

For homes with kids, dogs, or weekly lawn service, this makes a big difference.

Still Open, Just Smarter

This approach keeps the enclosure feeling open while making it more practical for everyday use. Most homeowners never notice the added beam after installation, but they appreciate it when repairs are needed later.
