Why Experience Matters More Than Price

One of the first questions homeowners ask is about price. I get it. Everyone wants to stay within a budget. But after doing this work for years in South Florida, I can tell you that price alone is a poor way to choose a contractor.
I own and operate At Home Service, and I have seen what happens when work is done by someone without the right experience. The job may look fine at first, but problems usually show up later. When they do, the repair often costs more than doing it right the first time.
Cheap Work Usually Shows Up Later
Low pricing often means corners were cut somewhere. That might be in materials, fasteners, anchoring, or time spent on the job.
I see issues like:
Screens tearing again within a short time
Rust forming around screws and joints
Doors sagging or not latching
Gutters overflowing during normal rain
Frames shifting or loosening
These problems are not bad luck. They are the result of inexperience or rushed work.
Experience Helps You Avoid Mistakes

Every screen enclosure is different. The layout of the home, the slab, drainage, wind exposure, and existing structure all matter. Experience helps you spot problems before they turn into expensive fixes.
When I look at a job, I am thinking about:
Whether the structure can be repaired or should be replaced
How water will move during heavy rain
What fasteners and materials will hold up best
How the enclosure should be anchored
What will pass inspection if a permit is required
That kind of planning only comes from doing the work over and over again.
The Right Recommendation Is Not Always the Cheapest
Sometimes the cheapest option is not the best option. A quick repair might save money today but fail again in a year. Other times, a simple fix is all that is needed and a full replacement makes no sense.
My job is to explain the options clearly and let the homeowner decide with honest information. I would rather lose a job than recommend something I would not do on my own home.
Permits and Code Matter
Experienced contractors understand when permits are required and how to build to current code. That protects homeowners from issues later if they sell or make changes to the home.
Inexperienced contractors often skip this part, which can create problems down the road that are far more expensive than the original job.
Quality Work Holds Its Value
A properly built screen enclosure should look good, function properly, and hold up to Florida weather. Quality work adds value to your home and reduces ongoing maintenance and repairs.
When work is done right, homeowners are not calling again a year later to fix the same issue.
What I Tell Homeowners
I always tell homeowners to look beyond the number on the estimate. Ask questions. Look at past work. Make sure the contractor understands Florida conditions and local requirements.
Experience matters because it protects your home, your money, and your peace of mind.
