Why Quality Materials Matter

This phase of work highlighted something we see all the time in screen enclosure projects. The materials matter just as much as the installation.

We serviced several enclosures where screens had been replaced recently, but the wrong materials were used. Incorrect mesh size, undersized spline, and low grade fasteners caused premature sagging, loose panels, and rattling doors. On the surface, the work looked acceptable. In real conditions, it did not hold up.

Fasteners were a major issue. Non stainless or improperly coated screws corrode quickly in South Florida. Once corrosion starts, fasteners lose grip, frames shift, and screens lose tension. Replacing a screen without addressing the fasteners underneath is a short term fix at best.

We also saw problems caused by mismatched materials. Mixing different metals and coatings leads to accelerated corrosion, especially around joints and connections. Proper material matching helps enclosures last longer and perform better in wind and rain.

Another focus was screen selection. Not all mesh is created equal. Choosing the right screen depends on location, exposure, pets, and how the enclosure is used. A one size fits all approach usually leads to disappointment.

This reinforced the idea that quality materials save money in the long run. Done correctly, screen enclosures should feel solid, operate smoothly, and hold tension for years.
